Soak in the Benefits of Magnesium

“..Who Needs Magnesium?

Magnesium is used in the process of metabolism. The body consumes mega amounts—especially when under stress of any kind. This means athletes can become very prone to magnesium deficiency. Hyperkalaemia, excessive calcium depositing in the soft tissue, ligaments and joints, is a typical sign of magnesium deficiency, as are cramping and restless legs.

As tissue cell levels of magnesium drop, calcium can leach out of the bones and settle in these places. You may also find it settling at injury sites or areas of low pH in the body, as calcium is also used by the body to alkalize and buffer acid by-products.

We are exposed to large amounts of calcium in foods these days, but relatively low levels of magnesium. It is often the case that simply increasing magnesium exposure can balance and control that excess calcium…”

Epsom Salt Vs. Magnesium Chloride by MEG BRANNAGAN Last Updated: Aug 14, 2017
“..Magnesium Chloride

Magnesium chloride is a type of salt that originally comes from seawater. It is often taken orally to resolve mild hypomagnesemia, or it may be given intravenously for those who have severe deficiencies. In some situations, magnesium chloride is used as an emergency medication for a heart attack. Different types of supplements may have varying amounts of elemental magnesium, which means that not all magnesium in the supplement is available for absorption by the body. According to the National Institutes of Health, magnesium chloride has approximately 12 percent magnesium available for absorption. Alternatively, magnesium sulfate, or that found in Epsom salt, contains only 10 percent magnesium available for absorption.

Although both Epsom salt and magnesium chloride may be given for the treatment of some conditions, consult your doctor if you have any side effects. While Epsom salt is approved by the FDA as safe to ingest, read the directions to avoid overconsumption. Magnesium chloride may interfere with other drugs you might be taking, including some thyroid replacement medications and certain antibiotics. If you must take magnesium to replace a deficiency, your doctor can determine the proper dosage and what drugs are safe to use…”

Magnesium Chloride Flakes Vs Epsom Salts
“..The best salt sources are from pristine mountainous locations not near industry, populations or mining. The best harvesting methods are from open salt lakes via natural dehydration in evaporation tanks, which provides a food grade quality for drinking water or tofu. This should also be confirmed via independent laboratory testing.

Dehydration of the salt brine sends the sodium chloride to the top layer, which is skimmed off to make table salt. This process leaves behind the magnesium chloride and other trace minerals in a natural mineral package from Nature.

MagnesMagnesium Chloride Flakesium chloride flakes are an excellent food source for electrolyte replacement to avoid cramps and magnesium deficiency symptoms. Food grade magnesium chloride flakes are commonly used by Asian food manufacturers to make tofu products. They can also be added to filtered water to make a mineral alkaline drinking water…

When you soak in a magnesium flakes bath or footsoak the hot water helps the skin to open up and absorb more magnesium. In addition, the body can release toxins and metabolism wastes through the skin. Whatever you can excrete via the skin lifts the load off the kidney and liver to process and eliminate. And it feels so fantastic! Add a bit of candle light and some fragrant essential oils and you’ve got the perfect pampering bath. Relax, revive, replenish!

Even in the first ten minutes you can experience an overwhelming relaxation and sensation of calmness wind its way through your system. A surge of peace flows through your limbs, then into the heart. Did you know that the left ventricle of the heart has more magnesium receptors than any other muscle in the body? That’s how important magnesium is to the heart and its rhythm…”

What is the proper anatomical term for the top of your foot?
March 18, 2007 10:27 AM
“..I see that the top of the foot is considered as dorsal in human anatomy. At first I would have thought, for consistency, that the top of the foot would be called ventral and the sole dorsal as in a person lying face down. But when you get beyond the wrist, dorsal and ventral are replaced by dorsal and palmar, the terms referring to the palm and back of the hand. Likewise for the foot the terms refer to the plantar (sole) and dorsal (top). This makes some sense in mechanical terms since when you are walking on all fours, the back the hand and top of the foot are folded and point dorsally. I wonder how these surfaces are oriented in view of ontogeny. Would the sole and palm be dorsal?..”

“..One of these tests is called the Wet Feet Test and it is very simple to do and to understand. The basis of this test is that the wet footstep you leave on the floor while walking is a good indicator on how your foot absorbs the shock of the impact with the floor.

Simply wet your feet and walk over a flat surface, either the floor or a sheet of paper. Now, compare the impression you leave with the three figures here below:..”

“..On March 10, we wrote a news item entitled, “Study shows simple foot exercises significantly decrease seniors’ risk of falls.” In this item (click here to see it) we told you about a group of Portuguese researchers who had discovered that simple foot and ankle exercises had enormous benefits when it comes to improving functional mobility in facility-dwelling seniors…

Dorsiflexor muscle exercises..

While in a sitting position, and with heels planted firmly on the ground, lift the ball of the foot up in the air. There are two muscles that cross the back of the ankle, Smith explained. By performing this exercise in a sitting position, only one of the muscles is used, making this a good routine to start out with…

Plantar flexor muscle exercises

For exercising the plantar flexor muscles (the ones on the bottom of the foot), another simple gravity-based routine will do the trick.

“The simplest thing is to stand with your hands on a counter top or something firm and practice going up on tiptoes on both feet,” Smith said.

Once you get to the top, don’t just come straight back down. Slowly lowering your body is much more beneficial. Once you’ve built up some tolerance to this exercise, you can stay up longer, or switch to just one foot…

Achilles Tendon
*see Medical: What are parts of the Skeletal System?

Causes and Risk Factors for Achilles Tendon Damage
“…Anyone can hurt their Achilles tendon, but some people are more prone than others. Factors that increase the likelihood of Achilles tendonitis and other tendon problems include:

A change in the athlete’s training schedule and/or intensity level, such as adding another few miles to a daily running routine or participating in plyometric exercises that require explosive movement, such as burpees or box jumps
A change in playing surface, such as when a tennis player shifts from playing on grass courts to clay courts, or when the athlete changes footwear
Tight or weak calf muscles can be overstretched, resulting in soft -tissue damage.
Excessive pronation, defined as rolling inward on the foot when walking or running
Chronic ankle instability, or a recurrent “giving way” or rolling of the ankle
Leg-length discrepancy, even if quite small, can cause the body to compensate and put soft-tissue structures like the Achilles tendon at risk for injury..”

Plantar Fasciitis – Cause
“..Exactly what causes plantar fasciitis is not well understood. But it probably develops as the result of repeated small tears in the plantar fascia . Normally when you walk, your plantar fascia stretches as your foot strikes the ground. If the plantar fascia is strained by the way you walk or by repeated stress, it can become weak, swollen, and irritated (inflamed), and it can hurt when you stand or walk…”
Plantar Fasciitis Written by Christine Case-Lo Medically Reviewed by Steve Kim, MD on February 16, 2016
“..You’re at a greater risk of developing plantar fasciitis if you’re overweight or obese. This is due to the increased pressure on your plantar fascia ligaments, especially if you have sudden weight gain. Women who are pregnant often experience bouts of plantar fasciitis, particularly during late pregnancy.

If you’re a long-distance runner, you may be more likely to develop plantar fascia problems. You’re also at risk if you have a very active job that involves being on your feet often, such as a factory worker or a restaurant server. Active men and women between the ages of 40 and 70 are at the highest risk for developing plantar fasciitis. It’s also slightly more common in women than men…”

5 Moves to Prevent Plantar Fasciitis By Runner’s World

If arch pain is your nemesis, Davis recommends doing the following exercises, barefoot, daily. (Learn to do the moves with correct form: watch the video how-to of the five exercises and follow along.)..”
