Cancer Types: How to “fight” Ovarian?

CAUSES

Do We Know What Causes Ovarian Cancer? cancer.org
“..There are many theories about the causes of ovarian cancer. Some of them came from looking at the things that change the risk of ovarian cancer. For example, pregnancy and taking birth control pills both lower the risk of ovarian cancer. Since both of these things reduce the number of times the ovary releases an egg (ovulation), some researchers think that there may be some relationship between ovulation and the risk of developing ovarian cancer.

Also, we know that tubal ligation and hysterectomy lower the risk of ovarian cancer. One theory to explain this is that some cancer-causing substances may enter the body through the vagina and pass through the uterus and fallopian tubes to reach the ovaries. This would explain how removing the uterus or blocking the fallopian tubes affects ovarian cancer risk. Another theory is that male hormones (androgens) can cause ovarian cancer…”

Cellular Memory Healing: How to Clear Limiting Beliefs and Emotional Wounds at the Cellular Level BY DR. ALEXANDER LLOYD consciouslifestylemag.com
‘..So what exactly do we mean when we say “cellular memories”? Really, we are simply talking about your memories. Researchers began adding the word cellular because we used to believe that all memories were stored in the brain—until, over many years with lots of patients, surgeons removed every part of the brain and found the memories were always still there. The experiences of organ transplant recipients also support this idea. Now we know that memories are stored in cells all over the body, but they’re still just what we would call our “memories,” which is how I’ll refer to them throughout the rest of this. Also, out of the various terms writers and researchers have used for cellular memory, I’ve come to prefer the term that King Solomon used, particularly since he was the earliest source I found for this concept: the issues of the heart. But to distinguish this concept from our cardiovascular heart, I call it the “spiritual heart.” So when I refer to the spiritual heart throughout the rest of the piece, you can just as easily substitute cellular memory or the subconscious or unconscious mind. I simply mean the place where our good and bad memories, the source of all our life issues and problems, reside…”

pt.2 Healing Codes -Another way to Heal the heart letusreason.org
‘..

Cellular memory is that scientists now believe that illnesses, such as cancer, occur when a bad cellular memory replaces a good one. Bad cellular memories can contribute to depression, addiction, and psychological trauma as well. Scientists are working to find out how cells develop these memories, and how they can be changed.

Many in the medical community feel that when we get sick, we need to address five core issues: negative emotions, negative thought patterns, conscious beliefs that are not what they should be, actions and behaviors, and the physiology of their body. But Loyd says these five issues are not the ailments themselves, but merely the symptoms of a deeper, underlying problem. He explains that what is really at the core of all illness is what he calls the issues of the heart, or your core spiritual issues.

Heal the cell memories, replace the bad ones with good ones, and pain and illness will disappear.

As King Solomon said 3000 years ago, “Guard your heart above everything else, for from it flows all of the issues of life.” Addressing matters of the heart, or spiritual beliefs, will allow you to heal your cellular memories. And once the memories have been changed, the cells themselves are able to be healed, and your hypothalamus turns off the stress signals to the body. This, in turn, allows your body to heal. (Cellular Memory and its Role in Healing by Jack Hugo on May 2, 2012)

So what he is saying is that cells go bad from experiences, stress; and his new method of healing can remove this damage.

“The healing code is not a religious thing it works like gravity, The Healing codes work because of physical laws of nature” It is not a religious process but a physical mechanical process. (Larry Napier- spiritual foundations of healing). If that is so, then why do they refer to it as a spiritual healing? Why do they use the Bible Scriptures to support it?..”

It also had a great leaning towards Christian spiritual matters, but at the time I paid no attention to that. Health: Nutrition-Micronutrients Pt. 4~Vitamins=Trace Minerals

Trace Minerals innerbody.com

“..

The minerals that the body requires in amounts less than 100 milligrams per day are referred to as trace minerals. They are chromium, copper, fluoride, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium and zinc. Because iron metabolism is the most complicated of the nine, it will be discussed in greater detail.

Iron

Functions:
Carries oxygen throughout the body
Assists in energy metabolism and other enzyme-mediated chemical reactions
Supports immune function
Involved in the production of neurotransmitters, chemicals that carry messages between nerve cells
Participates in the development of the brain and nervous system
Recommended Intakes of Iron: The RDA for men and postmenopausal women is 8 mg. Because of their monthly blood losses, the RDA for premenopausal women jumps to 18 mg. The RDA during pregnancy jumps even more to 27 milligrams to provide adequate iron stores for the infant. If the mother’s iron status is poor, the baby will not have enough stored iron to last the first six months of life.

Chicken livers on a cutting boardSources of Iron: Iron has two types: heme and non-heme. Heme iron is only present in animal flesh. Beef, liver, clams and oysters are excellent sources of iron. Additional sources are poultry, fish and pork. Non-heme iron can be found naturally in tofu, legumes, spinach, raisins, and other plant foods. It is the form of iron used in fortified and enriched foods such as breakfast cereals, bread and pasta. As an excess of iron is highly toxic, the human body tightly regulates the amount of iron it absorbs. Depending on the body’s need for iron, we absorb approximately 15 to 35% of the heme iron we ingest, but significantly less of the non-heme iron. Eating meats including fish and poultry and vitamin C-rich foods enhances the absorption of non-heme iron. Thus, you will absorb more iron from legumes, for example, if when you eat them, you also eat fresh tomatoes or an orange…”

Top 10 Healthy Iron-Rich Foods List

What foods are high in iron? There are many good sources of iron to choose from, but here are some of my favorite healthy foods rich in iron that definitely top the charts:

1. Spirulina: 1 ounce: 8 milligrams of iron (44 percent DV)

Spirulina is a blue-green algae renowned for its intense flavor and even more powerful nutrition profile. Just one ounce almost provides half of typical iron requirements. When it comes to vegetarian, non-heme sources of iron, spirulina is a superstar without a doubt. It’s also rich in essential amino acids, iron, protein, B vitamins, and vitamins C, D and E.

2) Liver: 3 ounces of organic beef liver: 4.05 milligrams of iron (22.5 percent DV)

When it comes to foods with iron, specifically heme iron (the more easily absorbable form), liver definitely tops the list. If you struggle with any type of anemia — a clear sign of an iron deficiency — this is probably the best food to consume in the world because it contains iron as well as folate and vitamin B12. These are the three vitamins and minerals you need in order to overcome anemia naturally.

3) Grass-Fed Beef: One lean grass-fed strip steak (214 grams): 4 milligrams of iron (22 percent DV)

Grass-fed beef is another awesome meat source of heme iron as well as many other key nutrients. It’s definitely one of my personal favorites when it comes to iron-rich foods. In addition to iron, grass-fed beef is also higher in precursors for vitamin A and E, along with cancer-fighting antioxidants, compared to grain-fed beef. (2)

4) Lentils: ½ cup: 3.3 milligrams of iron (20.4 percent DV)

Lentils are legumes that have a really impressive amount of non-heme iron per serving. Aside from their high supply of nutrients, what’s another benefit of including protein-packed lentils in your diet regularly? They’re really cheap and very versatile.

5) Dark Chocolate: 1 ounce: 3.3 milligrams iron (19 percent DV)

When you buy high-quality dark chocolate, you not only satisfy your sweet tooth — you also give your body a significant dose of iron. All you need is one ounce to fulfill almost 20 percent of your daily iron requirements. Now that’s one healthy dessert option!…

‘..When You Get Too Much or Too Little Iron: The UL for males and females aged 14 and above is 45 mg. It is 40 mg for younger individuals. Side effects of too much iron are gastrointestinal and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation. Accidental overdose of multivitamin/mineral supplements or other iron-containing products is the leading cause of poisoning deaths among young children in the U.S. Immediate emergency medical care is critical because death can occur quickly. In addition to gastrointestinal symptoms, the child may experience rapid heartbeat, dizziness and confusion.

Hemochromatosis is a genetic defect that causes excessive iron absorption. Over time, iron can accumulate in and cause damage to various parts of the body. The result could be diabetes, liver cancer, cirrhosis of the liver and joint problems.

Iron deficiency is the most common nutrient deficiency throughout the world. In the U.S., individuals experiencing rapid growth or blood losses are at increased risk for deficiency. These include young children over 6 months of age, adolescents, menstruating women and pregnant women. Because they consume no heme iron, vegetarians are also at increased risk. Iron deficiency results in anemia

Brain Health
High Copper foods stimulate higher-level thought processes and mental functioning. It has been called a “brain food” because it helps enable certain neural pathways that promote out of the box thinking. A lack of copper during growth may result in incomplete brain and nerve development.

Slows Aging
Copper is a powerful antioxidant that protects cells against free radical damage. It can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, and even macular-degeneration.

Energy Maintenance
Copper plays a role in the synthesis of ATP, the primary molecule of energy storage in our bodies. Iodine: Iodine is a component of the thyroid hormones, which regulate metabolic rate and body temperature. Sources of iodine include saltwater fish, liver, legumes, potatoes, iodized salt and dairy products. Iodine deficiency inhibits the synthesis of thyroid hormones resulting in hypothyroidism and it’s typical problems including fatigue, weight gain and intolerance to cold. Inadequate iodine intake is fairly common in some parts of the word and may affect as much as 30% of the world’s population. In recent years, the use of iodized salt has decreased deficiency cases. Under different circumstances, excess iodine can cause either hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Both too little and too much iodine can cause goiter, an enlargement of the thyroid gland.

Are You Eating Enough Iodine-Rich Foods? draxe.com
“…One of the most widespread symptoms of iodine deficiency? Thyroid disorders. Thyroid function relies on proper levels of iodine, so too much (or too little) can cause many serious health problems. The thyroid is one of the body’s master glands responsible for balancing hormones, and thyroid disruption caused partially by a diet low in iodine-rich foods can create such negative reactions as fatigue, weight gain or loss, hormone imbalances, mood changes, and much more…

Why are more people experiencing iodine deficiency?

Several reasons might be to blame: a reduction in the amount of naturally iodine-rich foods in people’s diets (wild-caught fish, green vegetables and sea vegetables, for example), a higher exposure rate to certain chemicals found in processed foods that reduce iodine absorption (especially the compound called bromine, found in many plastic containers and baked goods, for example), and a depletion in the amount of iodine found in soils…

Health: How to “fight” the Common-Cold?

What Is The Common Cold: Causes, Symptoms, Treatment, Prognosis & Prevention lillingtonmedicalservices.org
“..Also known as viral rhinitis, the ordinary cold is among the most common infections among humans. It is primarily an upper respiratory track infection that can be caused by several virus families. The virus family that is responsible for up to 40 percent of colds is called rhino-virus and it has over 100 distinct virus types.

Since common cold symptoms can be caused by so many viruses, it has not been possible to develop a simple cure for the infection. The common cold should not be mistaken for influenza, which can make you ill for much longer, has more severe symptoms, and can result in hospitalization or lead to serious health problems including pneumonia…”

Common Cold Cure? natural vitamins, herbs, supplements, a step by step guide to home remedy February 27 2017 by Ray Sahelian, M.D. raysahelian.com
“..Each winter all of us are exposed to rhinoviruses– those annoying viruses that cause common cold symptoms. The word rhino means nose. Therefore, rhinoviruses are viruses that infect the nose and upper respiratory system. The upper respiratory system includes the nose, mouth, the throat (or pharynx), and the sinuses. The lower respiratory system includes the trachea and the lungs. Upper respiratory infections (URIs) are the most common acute illnesses in the United States and the Western world. As internal body temperatures fall after exposure to cold air, so too does the immune system’s ability to beat back the rhinovirus that causes the common cold…

For nasal congestion and mild cough
Turn on the hot shower in the bathroom and every few hours spend 10 to 20 minutes breathing the warm humid air in order to loosen up any mucus in the lungs or nose. This will help you clear out sputum accumulating in these tissue and you can cough and expel them. Mucus-producing tissue lines the mouth, nose, sinuses, throat, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract. Mucus acts as a protective blanket over these surfaces, preventing the tissue underneath from drying out. It is not uncommon for a cough to last 2 or 3 weeks after the nasal symptoms and sore throat are gone…”

Part 1 of 7
What causes a common cold?

The cold is a common infection of the upper respiratory tract. Although many people think you can catch a cold by not dressing warmly enough in the winter and being exposed to chilly weather, it’s a myth. The real culprit is one of more than 200 viruses.

The common cold is spread when you inhale virus particles from an infected person’s sneeze, cough, speech, or loose particles from when they wipe their nose. You can also pick up the virus by touching a contaminated surface that an infected individual has touched. Common areas include doorknobs, telephones, children’s toys, and towels. Rhinoviruses (which cause the most colds) can live for up to three hours on hard surfaces and hands.

Most viruses can be classified into one of several groups. These groups include:

human rhinoviruses
coronaviruses
parainfluenza viruses
adenoviruses

Some other common cold culprits have been singled out, such as the respiratory syncytial virus. Still others have yet to be identified by modern science…”

PREVENTION

10 Tips to Prevent The Common Cold medicinenet.com
“..While it is impossible to completely prevent the spread of colds, there are steps you can take to reduce your and your family’s chances of becoming infected with a virus that causes colds:

Wash your hands often. This is probably the single best measure to prevent transmission of colds. Especially after shopping, going to the gym, or spending time in public places, hand washing is critical. Frequent hand washing can destroy viruses that you have acquired from touching surfaces used by other people. You can also carry a small tube of hand sanitizer or sanitizing hand wipes when visiting public places. Teach your children the importance of hand washing too.

Avoid touching your face, especially the nose, mouth, and eye areas, if you are around someone with a cold or have been touching surfaces in a public area. ..

Maintain a healthy lifestyle. While there isn’t direct evidence to show that eating well or exercising can prevent colds, maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, with adequate sleep, good nutrition and physical exercise can help ensure that your immune system is in good condition and ready to fight infection if it occurs…”

“..Many of the home remedies for colds listed below can be altered to fit your preferences (e.g. a different essential oil, more or less spiciness in the decongestant, etc. etc.) There may be some overlap with remedies for a sore throat or a cough, but I try and offer some variety here. Eventually you’ll have your own go-to remedies and recipes…”

‘“Yo! SLOW DOWN! I need a break!” So, slow down, take the day off and rest. You’ll body will thank you by recovering and rejuvenating itself and you’ll be back to your busy schedule in no time!..

1. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) – Make an ACV tea to sip and/or gargle. Use 2 tablespoons ACV, 1-2 tablespoons honey (to taste), lemon juice (again, to taste) and a little hot water to dilute. It’s potent but the stronger it is, the faster it will work (of course you can change the amounts of everything to your liking). Use it 3-4 times a day (less is ok too but the more you do it, the better the results). ..

4. Increase Vitamin C & D – Vitamin C has long been known to support the immune system and fight off colds. As with any supplement, check with your doctor first but about 500-2000 milligrams every 2 hours is recommended. Fruits and veggies high in Vitamin C are oranges, kiwis, bell peppers, guavas, strawberries, dark leafy greens, papaya, broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Additionally, having enough Vitamin D reduces your risk of catching a cold in the first place. Sunlight and fish are great sources of D.

7. Honey – Make sure it’s local and raw. Honey has antioxidants, antiviral and antibacterial properties, boosts the immune system and soothes sore throats and coughs. Add 1-2 tablespoons to your ACV tea, ginger tea or just a cup of warm boiled water. Add some lemon for the added benefit of Vitamin C.
(Don’t give honey to infants and young children). As healthy as honey is, make sure you don’t overdo it (see #8 below!).

8. Just say NO (to sugar!) – Sugar weakens your immune system! It may be tempting when you have a sore throat to have hard candies, sugar in your tea, pudding/jello, popsicles/ice cream but if it’s high in sugar … STEP AWAY! This will only make you sicker and prolong your cold. Opt for sugar free items or better yet, just stick to tea sans the sweetener and soups…”

Medical: How to “fight” breast cancer?

CAUSES

Causes of Breast Cancer nationalbreastcancer.org
“..Women with certain risk factors are more likely than others to develop breast cancer. A risk factor is something that may increase the chance of getting a disease. Some risk factors (such as drinking alcohol) can be avoided. But most risk factors (such as having a family history of breast cancer) can’t be avoided. Having a risk factor does not mean that a woman will get breast cancer. Many women who have risk factors never develop breast cancer…”
Do we know what causes breast cancer?, cancer.org
“…
Many risk factors can increase your chance of developing breast cancer, but it is not yet known exactly how some of these risk factors cause cells to become cancerous. Hormones seem to play a role in many cases of breast cancer, but just how this happens is not fully understood.

DNA is the chemical in each of our cells that makes up our genes—the instructions for how our cells function. We usually look like our parents because they are the source of our DNA. But DNA affects more than how we look. …

How to Cut Your Breast Cancer Risk Naturally

Most Natural Prevention Strategies Cut Your Risk in Half
“..
What’s most important, however, is Dr. Horner’s discovery that most of the lifestyle strategies that have been scientifically tested have the ability to cut your risk of cancer by about 50 percent; sometimes more. And yet virtually no one in conventional medicine talks about and shares such findings with their patients. Why? For example, turmeric can slash your risk by about half, while optimizing your vitamin D levels has been shown to cut breast cancer incidence by 77 percent1 in four years!

Of course, other lifestyle factors are also important in preventing cancer, such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, and managing stress. However, vitamin D’s critical importance seems to grow with every emerging study. Carole Baggerly, founder director of GrassrootsHealth—an organization dedicated to increasing awareness about vitamin D and the crucial role it plays in health—believes that as much as 90 percent of ordinary breast cancer is related to vitamin D deficiency, which is 100 percent preventable!

Despite its name, vitamin D is actually a powerful neuro-regulatory steroid with epigenetic influence over more than 2,000 genes in your body. That’s about 10 percent of all your genes. There are more than 830 peer reviewed scientific studies showing vitamin D’s effectiveness in the treatment of cancer, and personally, I believe it is virtually malpractice to not optimize vitamin D levels when treating someone with cancer. In this case, your vitamin D levels should be around 70-100 ng/ml. For more information about optimizing your vitamin D levels, please see my previous article Test Values and Treatment for Vitamin D Deficiency. …”
Breast Cancer
“…Dr. Weil recommends that all women diagnosed with breast cancer seek treatment with a qualified and experienced breast surgeon, oncologist and radiation specialist. However, he emphasizes the need for the following lifestyle measures to reduce the risks of developing breast cancer in the first place and to help prevent recurrences after treatment:

Maintain a healthy weight. Weight gain after age 18 to between the ages of 50 and 60, has been consistently associated with risk of breast cancer after menopause. When the ovaries stop producing hormones after menopause, fat cells produce most of the estrogen in the female body. The more fat tissue in a woman’s body, the higher her estrogen levels are likely to be, and the higher her risk of breast cancer.
Exercise. Regular physical activity can reduce the risks, possibly because it can lead to weight loss and decrease the amount of body fat, thereby reducing exposure to circulating estrogens produced by fat that could foster development of the disease.
Reduce exposure to xenoestrogens. A large number of synthetic chemical compounds that we all encounter have estrogen-like activity. Among them: common pesticides, industrial pollutants and hormone residues in meat, poultry and dairy products. While evidence linking these hormones to breast cancer is conflicting, Dr. Weil recommends limiting exposure as much as possible. Choosing hormone-free dairy and animal products and organic produce is a good start.
Avoid alcohol. A study reported in the November 2011 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the more a woman drinks, the higher her breast cancer risk. Data from a study including 108,986 nurses who were followed from 1980 to 2008 showed that having two or more alcoholic drinks daily increased a woman’s risk of breast cancer by 1.5 times compared to women who never drank alcohol; for women who had one alcoholic drink per day, the risk was about 1.2 times higher than normal. Alcohol is believed to increase a woman’s risk because it increases levels of estrogen and other hormones associated with hormone receptor positive breast cancer.
Avoid long-term hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Data from the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study of hormone replacement therapy that was halted ahead of schedule in 2004 showed an increased risk of breast cancer among women who took HRT, a combination of estrogen and progestin to slow post-menopausal bone loss and relieve menopausal symptoms. Follow up studies have shown that this increased risk continues for about 11 years after women stop taking the hormones. However, when the WHI study was stopped, women who were taking estrogen alone had a 23 percent reduced risk of breast cancer compared to those who took a placebo. Since then, studies have shown that the lower risk persisted for at least five years. (Estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) alone should only be prescribed for women who have had a hysterectomy – it presents a risk of endometrial cancer for women who still have a uterus. Adding progestin lowers this risk.) Until there are definitive data suggesting otherwise, Dr. Weil continues to recommend limiting use of HRT…

The following foods are considered part of a healthful diet in general, and they may help to prevent the development or progression of breast cancer:
•a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables…

“…List of foods to avoid and why

As scientists continue to explore the impact of different foods on the risk of breast cancer, people are generally advised to cut down on alcohol, added sugar, fat, and red meat.

Alcohol

Studies have identified a link between regular alcohol consumption and an increased risk of breast cancer. Breastcancer.org report that alcohol may increase estrogen levels and cause damage to DNA cells. They also note that women who drink three alcoholic beverages per week increase their risk of developing breast cancer by 15 percent. The risk goes up by around 10 percent with each additional drink per day.

Sugar

Researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have found that when mice eat a diet as rich in sugar as the typical American diet, they are more likely to develop mammary gland tumors, similar to breast cancer in humans. In addition, these tumors are more likely to spread, or metastasize.

Fat…

Trans fats have now been associated with an increased risk of breast cancer and should be avoided. Trans fats are most commonly found in processed food such as fried foods, some crackers, donuts, and packaged cookies or pastries.

HEALING

Breast Cancer Healed without Surgery or Drugs
Dory Nissen – 700 Club Producer cbn.com
“…Overwhelmed and frightened, Venus prayed. “And the fear would grip you. I mean, sometimes I’d just be on my face. Just crying like, ‘what is happening?’ you know. I mean, I was so scared. But I had to get over the fear because I wanted to live.”

Doctors advised her to have surgery and start chemo. But Venus declined; instead, she relied on God’s healing power. “I knew right away I was not going to have a double mastectomy. I knew I was not going to have chemo. I knew right away. It was just put on my heart.”

She started a regimen of healthy eating and exercise. Friends and family had mixed reactions. People were excited. I think they wanted to see somebody do this and not do it with chemo, radiation, and surgery. They wanted to see someone not get sick before they got better. Then there were people who were afraid. I’ve had people actually yell at me; really yell at me on the phone. And tell me I was crazy, ‘what are you doing?’ And I said, ‘I know I’m doing the right thing. I know. With all my heart I know.’”

Venus prayed for healing… sometimes for hours at a time. “I stood on the Word. I took the Bible literally that says, ‘by His stripes you were healed.’ I kept saying, ‘well, if He said that and we believe this Book, then it has to be true!’”

After two years Venus received some great news. “I got a blood test and there was no cancer in my body. I just wanted to praise God. That’s all I wanted to do, just praise God. Just like wow, ‘thank you. When You went to calvary, when You shed your blood, it was for me.’ And I believed it. And He was showing me every minute, every day. And I was so happy I could tell people, ‘I’m okay.’”

Venus has a special message for anyone battling cancer.

“When disease comes onto your body, remember that Jesus is the Healer. Everything else can be a bonus, but Jesus is the healer.”

This video journal features world-renowned cancer surgeon/oncologist and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology at one of the leading hospitals in the U.S. It is a testimony to the power of prayer and God’s faithfulness. It details the course of treatment, seven different types of chemotherapy including one clinical trial. I was diagnosed in 1996 with advanced stage ovarian cancer. After years of recurrences, surgeries, and chemotherapy, I was healed. This video briefly touches on my physical healing, but my story is one of spiritual healing and restoration. The spiritual healing and restoration was even more dramatic than the physical healing. As promised in Romans 8:28, God DOES use all things. ( If you have questions for me, feel free to post them here; I would love to pray with you and for you.) Expiration dates given by earthly physicians don’t mean much. Jesus Christ is the Great Physician. My goal with this site is to encourage those who have been diagnosed with late stage or metastatic cancer. In order to avoid those who seek out innocent people to steal identity, I have chosen not to use my name. As said, I was diagnosed in 1996 with ovarian cancer. I had eight recurrences in seven organs. I took seven different types of chemotherapy, year after year, for 10 years. Suffice it, I believe in prayer. I truly believe my healing was all God. I would love to talk to people who are going through what I did. Please understand that I only wish to hear from persons who are sincerely looking for answers. Persons who are looking to profit somehow from this information probably need not contact me. Blessings to each of you on your journey.”

Part 1 of 3: Causes
What Causes Eating Disorders?

The exact cause of eating disorders is unknown. However, many doctors believe that a combination of genetic, physical, social, and psychological factors may contribute to the development of an eating disorder.
Genetic

Certain genes may increase a person’s susceptibility to developing an eating disorder. According to the Mayo Clinic, people with first-degree relatives who have an eating disorder are more likely to have one, too.
Brain Chemistry

Research suggests that serotonin may influence eating behaviors. Serotonin is a naturally-occurring brain chemical that helps regulate mood, learning, and sleep, among other things.
Psychological Health

People with an eating disorder may have an underlying psychological or mental health problem that may contribute to the disorder. These problems may include:

low self-esteem
obsessive-compulsive disorder
troubled relationships
impulsive behavior
anxiety

Society

Success and worth are often equated with physical beauty and a slim physique. This is especially true in Western culture. The desire to succeed or feel accepted may fuel behaviors associated with eating disorders.

My Eating Disorder & Recovery Story tashalee.org

Hi, my name is (anonymous) and I am a believer in Jesus Christ and a recovered compulsive eater. I grew up in a wonderful family, surrendered my life to Christ at a very young age, was discipled by a strong youth leader in the Biblical faith, joined the church and publicly confessed Jesus as my Lord and Savior in my teenage years. …

I had heard about Overeaters Anonymous from some acquaintances in AA, and even though I thought the idea of the 12 steps were great, had never gotten the courage to try it out. Now was the time.

I attended my first OA meeting and was SO RELIEVED to hear these other people talk who could understand about bingeing and sneaking and hiding food and stealing from roommates! I no longer felt like I was all alone. Unfortunately…that relief was the extent of what I did in OA, because even though I knew I had a problem, I was not yet willing to give up my bingeing—I still saw my compulsive eating as a source of ease and comfort. …

I ended up at Christian 12-step at my church, heard a woman give her testimony at the recovery worship service, and was shocked that she publicly shared about her pornography addiction. I sought this woman out afterward, and she tried to help me with the steps, but said it seemed my sex addiction was rooted in my unresolved compulsive eating, and she thought I needed to find on OA sponsor. Meanwhile, she challenged me to go to any length for recovery, which I did, including going to Christian counseling, going to AA meetings every day, going to OA meetings, not only in my area, but also online and phone meetings….
