So your kids have been joining in anyways, why not make a workout that includes them? Fair warning: you have to show up willing to play.

You may be familiar with the Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” program. She is on a mission to eradicate childhood obesity, and has invited the faith community to get involved. Of course Revelation Wellness is going to meet that call.

It is important that we model healthy living to our kids. Even more important it is that we have continual dialogue about WHY God would want us to live healthy & whole lives. We challenge you to explain to them how God’s word is not only our health in being, but also our health in doing. That old adage is true “You are what you eat.”; when we participate in a well balanced diet and exercise plan, we are well fueled to get the task of giving and receiving love well.

And if we may add one to your list of sayings “What you do, you become.” Making the harder choices is an exercise in obedience. Obedience rarely goes down the path of least resistance. Give your kids an opportunity to “workout” their love for God and others and who they are in Christ, as they feel their bodies heat up and push against that path of most resistance.

Jesus is the remedy for all of our ailments. We, the church, are the vehicle to dispense his healing love. Start at home first and then let the ripple effect take over.

Fitness: How to teach kids ice skating?

Kids getting antsy during the long winter season? Instead of them playing video games indoors, get them outside to ice skate! How to teach them?

When I took my 8 yr. old nephew to the John Oval in Roseville (Minnesota), one of the first tips I gave is how to dress. I asked him if he had the right pair of gloves. It’s better to have “water resistant” gloves instead of the material that might soak water. In fact, my nephew was wearing jeans. I told him it would’ve been better to wear wind pants over his jeans or snow pants as an alternative. This is because when you are skating for the first time, you’ll fall and get ice all over. Thus, it’ll melt and go through your “non-water resistant” pants. The child might get wet and start getting cold, which might get him/her sick.

‘..Hot and humid days present an even greater challenge. When it’s humid, the air is already saturated with water, limiting the amount of sweat evaporating from your skin. As a result, the ability to dissipate heat is minimized and core body temperature rises rapidly, leading to hyperthermia. In extreme cases, hyperthermia can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Heat exhaustion, the most common heat illness, is defined as the inability to continue exercise in the heat (Armstrong 2000). Heat stroke is a medical emergency and occurs when body temperature rises to a level that causes damage to the body’s tissues (> 103–104 degrees Fahrenheit, or > 39–40 degrees Celsius) (Armstrong 2000).

In an attempt to prevent body temperature from rising to dangerous levels during exercise, your central nervous system orchestrates a complex response in which blood vessels supplying your inner organs constrict, while blood vessels supplying your skin dilate, causing blood to be diverted away from inner organs and directed outward to the skin to increase cooling through the convection of air over your skin’s surface. It may seem somewhat counterintuitive that as your core body temperature is rising during exercise in the heat, skin temperature decreases as a result of convective cooling. More blood being directed to the skin means less blood (and therefore less oxygen) going to the active muscles, causing exercise intensity to decrease and the perception of effort to increase. ..

The University of California in San Diego reports that a toxic bacterium can be added to crops to make them insect repellent, yet safe for human use. GM food supplement caused deadly epidemic

In the 1980s, a contaminated brand of a food supplement called L-tryptophan killed about 100 Americans and caused sickness and disability in another 5,000-10,000 people. The source of contaminants was almost certainly the genetic engineering process used in its production.[41] The disease took years to find and was almost overlooked. It was only identified because the symptoms were unique, acute, and fast-acting. If all three characteristics were not in place, the deadly GM supplement might never have been identified or removed.

If GM foods on the market are causing common diseases or if their effects appear only after long-term exposure, we may not be able to identify the source of the problem for decades, if at all. There is no monitoring of GMO-related illnesses and no long-term animal studies. Heavily invested biotech corporations are gambling with the health of our nation for their profit.
