I’ve rarely catch the flu and when I do, I do all these “home remedies” to fight it without any prescription meds (e.g. Tami Flu). I average “one” or “no” flu a season. I never had to get a vaccination at all…maybe as a kid, but never as an adult. In fact, this past winter season, I didn’t catch it all! I decided to do a blog on this topic today after chatting with someone that has it, which I asked her ..during the summer!? I did this to give her some “natural” remedies to fight this…

CAUSES

What are the causes of the flu (influenza)?
The flu (influenza) viruses
.medicinenet.com
“…influenza viruses cause the flu and are divided into three types, designated A, B, and C. Influenza types A and B are responsible for epidemics of respiratory illness that occur almost every winter and are often associated with increased rates of hospitalization and death. Influenza type C differs from types A and B in some important ways. Type C infection usually causes either a very mild respiratory illness or no symptoms at all; it does not cause epidemics and does not have the severe public-health impact of influenza types A and B. Efforts to control the impact of influenza are aimed at types A and B, and the remainder of this discussion will be devoted only to these two types….”
Flu Attack! How a Virus Invades Your Body
January 06, 2014 articles.mercola.com
https://youtu.be/Rpj0emEGShQ

“… The video above gives a wonderfully clear illustration of what happens when someone nearby you sneezes… and you end up inhaling the virus. It’s said that a single sneeze may produce up to 40,000 droplets, which may leave your mouth at speeds of more than 200 miles per hour.1 While some of the heavier droplets will fall to the floor, others remain airborne and are quickly circulated around the room. If the droplet is infected with a virus, and you inhale it, the video shows how a single virus can quickly begin producing millions of copies within your cells.

It’s a frightening prospect, until you realize that your body has more than 1 trillion cells – making 1 million viruses a mere drop in the bucket.

Also important, your body is equipped with its own highly effective defense system – your immune system – that starts killing viruses almost as quickly as they are produced. As long as your immune system can stay one step ahead of the virus, you’ll feel better again quickly… and in some cases may not even know you were “sick.”

Preparing Yourself for the Flu Season Naturally

By Catherine Clinton ND, Clinic of Natural Medicine naturopathic.org
“Each winter the influenza virus wreaks havoc on our ability to work and play. Symptoms of the flu include fever, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, runny nose, cough and stomach symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Sometimes a flu virus can come on slowly or it can hit suddenly without much notice. Each year this leads people to wonder how they can prevent themselves and their family from getting the flu. Naturopathic prevention and treatment of the flu virus includes vitamins and minerals, botanical medicine and lifestyle recommendations….

Lifestyle tips for the prevention and treatment of the flu:

Sleep- Maintaining a balanced sleep routine is one way to keep our immune system healthy. Adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night to rejuvenate for the next day. Consistent inadequate sleep lowers the body’s defenses needed for fighting viral infections.

Stress- While stress is a part of everyday life; excessive stress can decrease immune function and make it easier to come down with the flu. Establishing stress management techniques like deep breathing, exercise, yoga or meditation can help ensure that every day stress won’t leave you vulnerable to the flu.

Diet- A diet rich in fruits, vegetables and quality proteins is a foundation for a healthy immune system. Studies have shown that eating a sugary snack or meal can depress the immune system for several hours, creating a window of time during which it is easier to get the flu. Avoiding excessive sugar can keep the immune system working at the level needed to fend off viral infections, like the flu….

“..Is it a common cold or the flu? If your symptoms are above the neck—congestion, sore throat, sneezing, coughing—you probably have a cold. If you have all those symptoms plus a fever of 38.8˚C (102˚F) or more, headache, muscle aches, extreme fatigue, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, you’re more likely to have the flu.
What you can do for colds and flu

• For a sore throat remedy, fill a 250 mL glass with warm water, mix in one teaspoon of salt and gargle away. The salt really does soothe the pain.

• Add a squeeze of lemon juice to a glass of warm water for the more traditional sore throat gargle. This creates an acidic environment that’s hostile to bacteria and viruses.

• Chicken soup is a time-honoured remedy that is tried, tested and true…”

Baking Soda Uses: To Remove Splinters — and to Address Many Other Health Needs August 27, 2012 articles.mercola.com

“..Baking Soda May Help Fight Colds and the Flu
Some people believe that when taken internally, baking soda can help maintain the pH balance in your bloodstream. This is likely the basic premise behind its recommended uses against both colds and influenza symptoms. In their booklet “Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Medical Uses,” published in 1924, Dr. Volney S. Cheney recounts his clinical successes with sodium bicarbonate in treating cold and flu:2

“In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the ‘flu’ with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely anyone who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks.

I have since that time treated all cases of ‘cold,’ influenza and LaGripe by first giving generous doses of bicarbonate of soda, and in many, many instances within 36 hours the symptoms would have entirely abated…”

Healed from Sinusitis!

Gerhard – St. Petersburg, Russia cai.org
“…Rebuke the infection of the sinuses.
Lay hands on your face and order the sinuses to open, and the pus to flow out. Order the sinuses to heal.
Pray for the arms to become the same length (this corrects any twists in the spine) and order the swelling of the sinuses to disappear.
Avoid nicotine (no problem after I became a Christian) and caffeine.
Drinking at least 8 glasses of water will help.
A few hours after this prayer and drinking lots of water, the pus started to stream down my nose and the pressure was released! Praise the Lord – He did it without any needles!..

“.. So I did everything I thought of – I commanded any spirits of infirmity to leave me, I came against the sickness in Jesus name, I cast it out my body, but it got progressively worse. The body chills started which led to body pain. I kept running to the bathroom wanting to throw up. I prayed throughout the day for my healing because I did not want to take more time off work! By the time I got home, all I could do was lie in bed and literally cry like a baby from the pain. I could not get up because my dizziness was so severe I kept falling all over the place.

As I lay in bed in tears, it got to the point of me now begging God for healing. “Please Lord, I don’t even know what to pray anymore!”
Suddenly and as clear as day the words “JESUS IS LORD” flashed in my mind. I just went with it. As loudly as I could muster, halfway into my pillow, I declared, “Jesus is Lord… Jesus is Lord…sickness-Jesus is Lord, so get away from me.”

Within twenty minutes I was as right as rain! The dizziness and fever went away and so did the body pain! I was able to eat something for the first time that day. And I had sweet sleep (Proverbs 3:24). It was as if I could feel the illness dissolve…”
